Work your ass off.
Get paid for it.
You can’t do that.
What are you thinking?
She doesn’t love you.
You do remember what happened the last time, right?
You ain’t really doin’ shit.
You don’t love her.
But what will people think?
Do you really think this’ll work?
How do you think you can take care of a family? You can barely take care of yourself.
Good evening. These are just some of the voices that bounce around in my head, on any given day. Sometimes, these voices are quieted by work, reading, music and prayer. Part of me really wants to give into the voices, but something inside of me knows, without question that I cannot.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m a devout follower of the teachings of Jesus (this is an exasperatedly long way of saying that I am a Christian). I don’t flaunt it (as if it’s such a thing to flaunt), but I am. Yet and still; these voices will not shut up!
Let’s stop for a moment: Those people who have known God their entire lives will say something like, “You’re not praying enough,” or “you aren’t doing something right.” This post is probably not for them. Instead, this post is for the person who loves God, but hasn’t reached the “holier than thou status” on Facebook. Yes, this post is for you.
I thought if I prayed, gave God my time, money, talents, food (fasting) and have crazy faith, that I would be rid of these ridiculous voices. But how do I get rid of them, then? I’ll tell you: choose.
I choose to read something that will lift my spirits. Sometimes, I have to remind myself to look for such things throughout the day. Is is hard to do sometimes? Yes. But is it necessary? Of course.
Ultimately, I know that I will be just fine. I am doing what I am supposed to be doing, in this moment; that’s talking to you!
Until next time,
❤️+✌️
Herbie
